Come and experience the active volcanoes of the Big Island of Hawaii. This eight-day (7 night) field experience on the Big Island of Hawaii will have you living on one of the world’s most active volcanoes. We will see the results of recent eruptions and walk-on lava flows that are just a couple of years old (or younger if we can). We will swim on a green sand beach, visit a black sand beach, see waterfalls, rainforests, deserts and so much more. We will even find footprints of people that were caught in a massive ash eruption in 1790.
We visit many famous sites, as well as places the average tourist will NEVER see. Even if you have been to the Big Island before, you will have not seen it this way through the eyes of a volcanologist. You will get a different appreciation of the power our planet has to form new land as well as seeing how life has adapted to these volcanic islands.
And yes, we get to snorkel on one of the most beautiful reefs in all the islands.

We stay in wonderful accommodation right on Hilo Bay. Travel is modern air-conditioned vans. Meals are in local restaurants and picnics in beach parks to experience the “Hawaiian’ way of life.
